Ever since my sophomore year of college (2017) I have dreamed of pursuing the Marketing and PR Internship with the Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP). I did my research, interviewed the Marketing Manager and worked my butt off to get a shot at earning the position. I took my shot in the winter of 2019 and submitted my resumé. I kept telling myself, "It's a long shot, there's no way you're going to land this. They're going to find someone better."
Later I received an email to set up a phone interview, had the phone interview on Tuesday, I was told I would hear back on Monday, and two days later (on Friday) I was offered the internship (HOLY CRAP).
In my heart, I know the fact that I mentioned Marvel being a big part of my free-time scored me the position.
In all seriousness...this internship is 3 months long... and away from home, and grocery stores, and cars, and my dogs, and everyone I know... but I am excited about this new adventure and hope that I will soak in as much knowledge as mentally possible from this internship. There is sure to be a learning curve and, luckily, my mentor has been an amazing asset to the journey thus far and shows a lot of promise.
My position with the MSHP proves that passion and hard work can help you achieve your biggest goals and dreams. Oh yeah, and picking up on your favorite PR professor's tips and tricks along the way on how to land a job helps too. I can't wait to preserve and present history here in Mackinac this summer.
